On an annual basis the township boundaries in South Africa are updated. The historical and legislated township boundaries are checked to see if there has been any expansion. Using satellite imagery new townships are identified and their boundaries demarcated. Extensive information on the demographic profile, living standard measures, employment and income as well as land use changes within the townships can be provided.
